A Rainford entrepreneur who started his career in business aged 16 on a fruit and veg stall has been nominated for a top industry award.

Steve Roberts, who runs a series of mobile phone companies across the North West, is one of three finalists up for HSBC customer service prize.

His hugely successful firms today generate a multi-million pound turnover and employ 176 staff.

“I am passionate that my teams have every tool and resource available to motivate, engage and enrich every customers experience and we, as a team, endeavour to meet the needs of each unique customer,” said Steve.

All of Steve’s 16 store managers have been promoted through his stores and he recruits staff just as much on personality as capability.

He added: “A positive relationship between management and staff, open communication and staff engagement, all contribute to the successful delivery of outstanding customer service.”

Steve also enjoys supporting local organisations and endeavours to be at the heart of the community. His charity work includes fundraising for Radio City Cash for Kids, Ranford’s 10k run and Zoe’s Place.

The awards showcase the diversity of excellence in the franchise sector, encouraging businesses of all sizes and sectors to demonstrate their outstanding achievements.

Winners will be announced at a black tie dinner on October 1 at the Town Hall, Birmingham.
