A counselling group in St Helens which specialises in eating disorders has celebrated its first birthday with a change of name.

The St Helens Eating Disorder Support group, based at Harmony Counselling in Vincent Street, is now known as Freedom.

Group founder Louise Hill said: “The last year has been a challenge in terms of reaching out and informing people that we are here, but even if we have helped one person then we have achieved what we set out to do.

“Freedom is now expanding and we have been invited to run a workshop on self-help and support groups at the Liverpool Talking Eating Disorders conference in June.

“We also have two new co-workers, Steve Pickavance and Kathy Jenkins, who devote many hours of their time to support and encourage those who attend.”

The group specialises in assisting anyone suffering from anorexia, bulimia or compulsive overeating disorder. They meet on the first Monday of the month at Harmony Counselling on Vincent Street in the town centre between 6.30pm and 8pm.
