Former St Helens MP takes his seat in the House of Lords

Former chairman of the Parliamentary Labour Party and ex-minister Dave Watts has taken his seat in the House of Lords.

Lord Watts, who was minister of state at the defence and transport departments, was supported by Lord Grocott and Lord McAvoy as he swore allegiance to the Queen.

Former Liberal Democrat mayor of Watford Dorothy Thornhill has also taken her place in the Upper House.

Baroness Thornhill was supported by Baroness Brinton and Baroness Pinnock during her introduction.
