Firefighters were called to Newton-le-Willows after a water main burst.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service received the call at 1.49pm on Wednsday and crews were alerted at 1.52pm. They were on scene at 2.03pm.

One fire engine attended the incident, which occurred on Willow Road, from St Helens Community Fire Station.

The released water affected a number of properties on Willow Road.

Firefighters stemmed and diverted the flow of the water using specialist equipment and carried out salvage work at the affected properties.

United Utilities were informed and isolated the water supply.

Firefighters handed the incident over to United Utilities and remained at the scene for around an hour and ten minutes.
