Firefighters were called out to perform a rescue after a 12-year-old girl got stuck up a tree.

Crews from Eccleston were called to Thatto Heath Park, near St John Street, shortly before 7pm on Sunday (September 22).

A girl had climbed a large tree but then could not find a way down.

Firefighters used a nine-metre ladder and rope access gear to bring her back down to earth.

Watch manager Peter Boland said: “The girl was stuck in the branches of a tree around five metres off the ground.

“Whilst we understand young people like to have adventures they must understand there are risks involved in some of the things they do.

“We advise people not to climb anything where they may become stuck and require the help and assistance of the emergency services.”

The girl was safely back on the ground shortly after 7.15pm. She was unharmed.
