BRICKS rained down from the front of a crumbling terraced house, forcing a temporary closure to one of the main roads into St Helens.
Police officers and firefighters were called to a property on Dentons Green Lane - between its junctions with Bishop Road and Cowley Hill Lane - in the early hours of Friday, December 16 after a large area of brickwork collapsed into the road.
Luckily, nobody was hurt in the incident - and nobody was inside the property at the time - but the road was closed to traffic in both directions from around 6.30am to 8am.
Two crews from Parr Stocks Fire Station were first on the scene after receiving a call shortly before 6.30am.
The fire service’s specialist search and rescue team was also mobilised before but was later stood down when fire crews were no longer needed at the scene.
The last fire service appliance left the scene at about 7.35am.
St Helens Council’s building control team was also called to the scene.
A Town Hall spokesman said: “The building control team was contacted just after 6am and police and fire service personnel were already in attendance at the scene by the time they arrived.”
“Some of the brickwork on the front of the property had started to come away so a contractor removed all of the loose bricks.”
