Don't throw out the treasure with the trash

I'm a great fan of charity shops and car boot sales and love searching for a good bargain.

Mind you I do sometimes have to search through a lot of 'rubbish' before I find something I like.

But that's the point isn't it, what one person thinks of as rubbish, someone else might think is a great bargain?

A treasure hidden in among the dirt and the grime, the broken and the crushed bits and pieces!

Well, it's not a new image or story. Jesus once told a story of a man who bought a field, and in that field he discovered a treasure of great value, so much so that he sold all he had in order to possess the field and it's hidden treasure. He was so excited.

When you are next flicking through the rails in a charity shop, or burrowing amongst the piles loaded at a jumble or car boot sale, just think about the short story Jesus told.

You think you will find a good bargain sometime, but here, Jesus tells us that when we truly know 'ours is the kingdom of heaven' or in plain words, how we have gained eternal life with the Lord Jesus in heaven by simply believing He is the Son of God, what a superb 'bargain' we have!

We have nothing to pay, the price has already been paid – no wonder the farmer sold all he had to own his treasure – nothing in the world compares with it.

God love encompasses all of us, broken, worn out and dusty, crumpled etc – to Him we are all priceless, and He surrendered all to get you.
