A councillor has hit back at perceived criticism that yesterday’s flooding was made worse by blocked drains.

Although Coun Seve Gomez Aspron took to Twitter to insist the problems to hit the borough yesterday were entirely down to the volume of water.

A number of residents had complained on social media the deluge was made worse by water being unable to drain away properly.

This prompted Coun Gomez-Aspron, no stranger to social media, to hit back.

He wrote: “Flash floods aren’t caused by blocked drains. They’re caused by the sheer volume of water overwhelming drains.”
