St Helens residents are being urged to sign up for a hot winter warming poetry and rap contest in a bid to win a bike.

Those under the age of 16 and who fancy themselves to be the next William Wordsworth - or even Kanye West are being asked to enter VIRIDIS Home Energy Savings’ hot competition.

This could see them bag a new state-of-the-art bike.

All entrants have to do is write an original poem or rap which is no more than 20 lines, and can be accompanied with an illustration about staying warm in winter.

Whether it is about feeling cosy by the fire, wearing a favourite winter coat or dancing about in the cold to stay warm.

Entries will be split into three different categories, from children aged eight and under, nine to 11, and 12 to 16.

These will be judged by a local writer and Dr Jane Davies, Director of City of Readers and founder of the Reader Organisation, who will award one prize of vouchers to by a brand new bike and helmet in each of the categories.

Anybody who would like to enter, are being asked to email their poem or rap to jane.roberts@villages.org.uk or post to Jane Roberts, Villages Housing Association, 16 The Croft, Stockbridge Village, Liverpool, L28 1NR, before Tuesday December 1.

Entries submitted after this date will not be considered.
