A YOUNG couple’s wedding plans have been thrown into chaos by news of the impending closure of Eccleston Social Club, writes Chris Amery.
Chris Scott and Natalie Cole (pictured) are due to tie the knot at St Mark’s Church in Haydock on March 23 next year, and, several months ago, booked to have their wedding reception at the Knowsley Road venue.
Only when they visited the St Helens Reporter’s website did they realise that the club is now due to close.
Natalie, 23, of Bosworth Road, Blackbrook, said: “We were in shock when we read the story on the Reporter’s website. We couldn’t take it all in at first.
“We’d booked a wedding reception with a three course meal and an evening do at the club - but it’s all up in the air now. We’d even made all the invitations.
“The people at the club are really apologetic and are doing their best to help, but everything seems to have been taken out of their hands. The trouble is that most other venues are either too expensive or are booked up by now.
“We really don’t want to have to move the date either because March 23 means a lot to both of us. It’s the date we first started dating and the date that Chris proposed two years later.”
She added: “If we have to book a more expensive venue then we won’t be able to afford to have as many guests at our wedding reception.”
Chris, 24, of Parr, said: “Everything had been coming together nicely but now, if we want to hit our budget, we’re probably going to have reduce the number of guests we can invite.”
