AN enterprising teacher from St Helens has created an i-Phone app explaining the meaning behind some of France’s most enigmatic saying.
Clare Jones dreamt up the device after he husband splashed out on an expensive new phone.
She explains: “It all started when my husband bought an iPhone in December two years ago.
“It was so much money and I thought ‘how can I get the money back?’.”
The result was Figure Out French Expressions Volume 1 where students already studying the language will learn phrases such as ‘avoir la gueule de bois’, literally meaning ‘mouth of wood’ - a French idiom for a hangover!
The app is aimed at adult learners and comprises 18 lessons and fun quizzes on leisure and health topics.
The former Notre Dame pupil, who grew up in Windlehurst, now lives in Northamptonshire where she works as a private French tutor.
But she credits her education at the former St Helens grammar school with installing in her a lifelong love of learning language.
“Mrs Lyons was my French teacher and she was inspirational and a great teacher. I hope she would be proud of me!”,” said mum-of-two Clare.
