CCTV images of a man police would like to speak to after a group of youths were threatened with a knife have been released.

A member of the public reported to police that a youth had brandished a knife at a group of youths in Church Square, St Helens, on January 17 at around noon.

The youth then ran through the nearby St Mary’s shopping arcade.

Sergeant Neil Birkett said: “While no-one was injured during this incident, someone has brandished a knife in the middle of the day, in a busy shopping area and I’m sure the local community would agree that this offender needs to be brought to justice.

“We believe this to be an isolated incident - we have examined CCTV and carried out extensive enquiries in the area. I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time, or anyone who has any information about this incident to get in contact.”
