A St Helens entrepreneur who runs a luxury boarding service for pets has been shortlisted for an awards ceremony celebrating women in business.

Danielle McLean, who owns The Small Animal Hotel, is a finalist in the small business category of the Enterprise Vision Awards (EVA).

The business provides high-quality accommodation for pets such as rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters and bearded dragons while their owners are away on holiday.

Danielle made it through a huge field of entries to be shortlisted for the glamorous awards night, with a record 109 North West firms taking part.

She said: “I am over the moon to be a finalist in the small business category for the EVAs. To win would be amazing, just for all of my hard work and commitment to be recognised in this way would be such an achievement.

“I have put a lot of hard work in to moving the business up here: converting the barns, designing the layout, expanding and improving The Small Animal Hotel. It has been very hard work indeed but of course all worth it.”

There is a huge amount of quality across all of the categories and it certainly won’t be easy for the judges. Entries are at an all-time high

An independent panel had the tough job of looking through all the entries before whittling them down to the finalists.

Danielle and the other women selected will now face a grilling before the judges before the ceremony at Blackpool Winter Gardens in September where the winners will be announced.

Coral Horn, founder of networking group Pink Link Ladies and organiser of the awards, said: “It’s crunch time! It hasn’t been easy to reach the shortlist, but the judges have now chosen their finalists.

“There is a huge amount of quality across all of the categories and it certainly won’t be easy for the judges.

“Entries for the awards are at an all-time high and I think that has reflected in the entries we have received.

“Ladies must now prepare to make their presentation in front of the judges. Should they impress, they stand an excellent chance of scooping a coveted award.”

Launched in 2011 and once again sponsored this year by NatWest, the EVAs are now one of the region’s most prestigious events celebrating the achievements of women in business.

Residents also have the chance to support Danielle in her bid as a public nomination forms part of the process and will then be combined with the scores given out by the expert judges.

Voting opens on Monday August 14 at www.enterprisevisionawards.co.uk
