A TOWN centre shopping arcade was forced to close after a burst water main sparked a flood.
A six-inch water main, next to Church Square Shopping Centre, burst in the early hours of Monday morning (September 5) - flooding two shopping units. It also caused a loss of water pressure in homes and business premises elsewhere in the town centre.
A United Utilities spokeswoman said: “Our engineers shut down the main and re-directed supplies from other parts of our network to restore water pressures to the town centre by about 2pm. The shopping centre remained without water for the rest of the day to allow structural assessments and repairs to the water main.
“This work was completed overnight and all water to the centre was restored for the start of the working day yesterday. We are very sorry for the disruption caused and our loss adjusters are now working with the businesses affected.”
