A FIVE-year-old boy had to be rescued by firefighters after getting his head stuck in a school bench on the last day of term.
A fire crew from Eccleston was called out to Rivington Primary School on Tennis Street North, Dentons Green, at about 12.30pm last Wednesday (May 25).
On arrival, they realised that the stricken youngster’s head was completely stuck – and had to cut him free using a heavy-duty saw.
He was then checked over by paramedics, who gave him the all clear to stay in school.
Eccleston Fire Station watch manager Alan Moore said: “It was a fixed wooden bench and the child had fallen down the back of it and got stuck.
“His teachers had settled him down and we cut a section of the bench out using a heavy-duty saw to release him unharmed.
“The whole school was cheering when we released him.”
