A fitness instructor from St Helens is celebrating after success in a Mr Universe competition.

Ken Prescott took second place in the masters division of Mr Universe at a contest held in Orlando, Florida.

He qualified after winning the WFF Open Mr UK in Southport and picking up the silver medal in the European championships in Italy.

Ken, of Mendip Grove, Parr, said: “It was superb. It was the best show I have ever done. I was happier after that than any other show.

“I have done Mr Universe before in Great Britain, but never in America. I went to America and was the only British entry.”

Ken had hoped to win the competition, but said he was not disappointed to be the runner-up to a competitor from Thailand.

The 51-year-old said: “I was happy to come second. It could have gone either way and I was happy for him.”

Ken has been taking part in bodybuilding competitions for years and is now in the masters category, which is for over 50s.

As well as his training, he keeps fit by leading fitness classes every weeknight at Peak Fitness in St Helens.

He has also qualified for Mr World, which will be held in Dublin in November.

He thanked his wife Carla for her help.
