A MAN found dead at the back of a boarded up St Helens pub died of natural causes, a post mortem has confirmed.
Police were called to the back of the old Railway Hotel pub in Scholes Lane, Thatto Heath, last Tuesday evening (May 10) after a dog walker made the grisly discovery.
It is not known how long the body of the man, who was believed to be in his 50s, had been lying on a bench next to an overgrown bowling green in the disused pub’s grounds.
Detectives initially treated the death as “unexplained”, before passing the case onto the coroner following the results of the Home Office post mortem.
As the post mortem recorded cirrhosis - chronic liver disease - as the cause of death, no inquest into the underlying cause of his death will be held and his identity will not officially be made public.
