RAINHILL Beer Festival was hailed a huge success in its first year held away from Prescot Leisure Centre.

The popular annual event, organised by Rainhill Rotary Club, was re-routed to the Recreation Cricket Club following an eight-year stint at the recently-demolished Prescot Leisure Centre. A bid to hold it at Rainhill Village Hall previously proved unsuccessful.

Two large marquees were erected on the cricket club’s grounds as nearly 2,000 real ale enthusiasts and rotary club fundraisers supped a wide range of tipples last Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.

And a staggering 675 gallons were finished off in total - leaving just nine gallons spare!

Organisers said the event’s move into Rainhill Village presented “a big challenge” but was “a huge success”.

And plans are already underway to hold the 2012 Rainhill Beer Festival at the same venue.
