GOLDEN-HEARTED St Helens fund-raisers have helped to buy an ambulance to help impoverished communities in Africa.

Parishioners from Our Lady Help of Christians church in Portico Lane helped to raise a stunning £28,000 for the Friends of Mulanje Orphans charity.

The cash will buy an ambulance and a medical incinerator for the Outreach Health Centre opened last year.

Here, parish priest Father Dave Melly is pictured with charity founders Keith and Mary Woodworth and other fundraisers.

The Friends of Mulanje Orphans charity currently looks after 5,500 orphans in the poverty-stricken African country of Malawi.
