PUPILS from Evelyn Community Primary performed a Christmas carol concert with a difference - by using sign language.

Youngsters from the Evelyn Avenue school worked with the education group Deaf Active to master a number of songs in British Sign Language.

Year two youngsters spent 10 weeks learning the Beatles’ Love Me Do and Ticket to Ride, as well as Coldplay’s Yellow.

The concert took place last Tuesday at Prescot Shopping Centre.

A school spokesman said: “Staff and children at Evelyn Community Primary School believe in celebrating everybody’s differences and including all those in school and the wider society who might otherwise be excluded.

“We hope that by participating in this venture with Deaf Active, we have made an impact on our children who might not otherwise be aware of people with hearing impairments and how their lives are affected.

“Bringing our performance to Prescot Shopping Centre is a fantastic way to raise awareness of this issue and we hope to bring a little seasonal joy to the public as well.”
