A St Helens schoolgirl and aspiring model has picked up some heavyweight backing in her quest to be crowned Miss Teen Galaxy.
Already the winner of Miss Rainford, Miss Teen Galaxy finalist Myiah Banks has been sponsored by Ali Tyrer of the famous town centre department store.
The 14-year-old Rainford High pupil is set to battle it out for the title of Miss Teen Galaxy UK at a beauty pageant in Chorley on March 8.
If she were to win, she would then jet off to the US in a bid to win the global title.
Her mum Michelle said: “I’m so proud of Myiah because she’s quite shy in some respects. I would never have pictured her strutting her stuff in a high-profile competition like this, but it’s doing wonders for her confidence.
“Whether she wins or loses, that confidence can only be a good thing for her as she continues to grow.”
Myiah decided to apply for Miss Teen Galaxy after watching supermodel Naomi Campbell on TV show The Face.
It is the first beauty pageant she has ever entered.
Since being crowned Miss Rainford, she has been given the opportunity to select her outfits for the final from Tyrers and has even been asked to enrol at the Select modelling agency when she turns 15.
In the final she must compete in evening wear, fashion wear and swimwear categories and will count her brother Leon, 11, and sister Renee, five, among her supporters.
Mum Michelle added: “Myiah has an interest in fashion and textiles and has a very creative side, so this is great for her.
“It’s really good of Ali Tyrer to sponsor Myiah too. I don’t think she would have done that if she didn’t think she could help Myiah succeed in some way.”
