THURSDAY, APRIL 26: The next meeting of the Sankey Canal Restoration Society will be held at St Patrick’s Parish Centre, Marian Avenue, Earlestown, from 7.30pm. Chris Coffey will be the society’s guest speaker, showing films celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Rainhill Trials.

FRIDAY, APRIL 27: Newton Sports Club will hold a reunion from 7.30pm onwards for footballers who played in the local amateur leagues to chat about the good old days; remember that goal, or that brilliant save, or mis-timed tackle!

FRIDAY, APRIL 27: Prescot Parish Church, Church Street, will hold a Prescot Festival fundraising concert with Pilkington Choir and soloists. Tickets cost £5 and the concert starts at 7.30pm.

SATURDAY, APRIL 28: Rainford Show committee is holding a coffee morning in the Rainford Parish Hall between 10 and noon. There will be a variety of summer bedding plants available. Entrance including coffee and biscuits costs 50p.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 2: Diabetes UK’s St Helens and District Group’s next meeting will be held on at 7.30pm at the United Reformed Church, Ormskirk Street, St Helens. For further details contact C Bowmaker on 0151 480 0821.

SATURDAY, MAY 5: The Citadel will host blues gutarist Buddy Whittington. Doors open at 8pm. For tickets or further information call 01744 735436.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 9: St Helens’ U3A will be back St Helens Town Hall (main hall) at 10am for a 10.15am start. Ex-miner Gary Conley is the guest speaker, and he will talk about his involvement with the famous Dream sculpture, and its sculptor Juame Plensa. All general public are very welcome to attend. Refreshments available afterwards.

FRIDAY, MAY 11: The Helen Marie Charity holds a fashion show with Bonmarche at the Parish Church Hall between 1pm and 3pm. Tickets priced £1 on sale at Bonmarche or on the door.

MONDAY, MAY 14: Queen’s Park Local History Group next meet on Sprayhurst Social Club, Boundary Road, from 7pm. The speaker will be Joe Cowley on ‘The History of St Helens Operatic Society’. For more details call 07786 647931.
