A SUTTON church has been given a new lease of life - as the home of one of the borough’s most popular choirs.

Celebration Choir is a pop and gospel choir performing regularly around the town raising money for charity.

They are now based at the Sutton Oak Welsh Chapel in Lancotts Lane, a grade two listed building which was recently revamped with help from the Princes Trust.

“We’ve just done one show at the chapel and raised more than £200 for the mayor’s charity,” said choir leader Councillor John Beirne.

The choir is also based at Holy Trinity Church in Fingerpost and has continued to grow in numbers over the years.

“If any choir rocks then its ours,” said Coun Beirne. “We have received fantastic support from everyone in St Helens who has seen us.”

Meanwhile, a show to raise money for Willowbrook is planned for October 13 and CD of their music will be available for Christmas.

The age range of the choir is 15 to 80. Anyone wanting to join or who wants the choir to perform for them can call Pat on 07535 775505.
