Youngsters who completed their bronze Duke of Edinburgh Awards were treated to a song and a dance from X Factor finalists Eton Road.
Over two nights, 402 young people - 40 more than last year - attended the awards ceremonies at the Theatre Royal, St Helens.
The successful participants completed more than 4,824 volunteer hours and during their expeditions walked in excess of 7,0
00 miles.
The band, who reached the final in The X Factor in 2006, even danced on stage with some of the youngsters who were performing a dance routine.
St Helens Mayor, Coun Sheila Seddon, was also on hand to present the teenagers with their awards.
Coun Teresa Sims, executive member for Safer Communities, said:" The success and achievement of the Duke of Edinburgh's award in St Helens has been truly outstanding.
"The number of young people actually taking part in the award is a credit to the borough.
"Without the hard work and dedication of our young people with the support and help of our dedicated award staff, parents and volunteers the task of making St Helens one of the top operating authorities in the North West impossible to achieve."
The Duke of Edinburgh's award is designed to challenge all young people aged 14 – 25 and is best regarded as a personal development programme to build on self confidence and self esteem.
St Helens is recognised by the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme as being the best in the northwest.
