A singer from St Helens is tuning up for a special homecoming gig after performing with 'We'll Meet Again' superstar Dame Vera Lynn.
Soulful Stephen Davies (pictured above) will be swinging back to St Helens tonight (Wednesday) when he is due to perform at the Theatre Royal as part of the popular Swing 'n' Sinatra concert tour.

The local singer, who's also a talented multi-instrumentalist, was recently honoured to sing with 92-year-old Dame Vera in London.

Stephen has also featured on the Children in Need fund-raising show.

The Swing 'n' Sinatra show includes a host of classic swing and big band songs – featuring everything from Frank Sinatra and Glenn Miller through to Jools Holland style jazz.

Stephen said: "I'm looking forward to singing and playing songs from Benny Goodman to Frank Sinatra plus a duet with my mum Marjorie who's a regular performer with the local amateur dramatics society."

Ex-Ivy Benson Show Band singer and saxophone player, Simone Smith, will be also be appearing with bandleader husband Chris, whose varied career includes performances on Top of the Pops, Breakfast TV with Herb Miller and a solo performance on the Michael Caine film Silver Bears.

Chris said: "It's great that there's a strong resurgence in jazz and swing music enjoyed by all generations. I've been brought up with this style of music as my father (Chris Smith Snr) plays trombone professionally and performed with Frank Sinatra on his final tour.

"We're all looking forward to bringing songs like the Cordette's Mr Sandman to town."

To book tickets for Swing 'n' Sinatra, call the Theatre Royal's box office on 01744 756000.
