Live music fans can look forward to two gigs in as many days at the Citadel this weekend.
On Friday evening (March 20) up and coming local band The Murmurs of Tension are set to officially launch their latest EP 'Awkward Aura' at the Waterloo Street venue before embarking on a UK tour.
The Murmurs Of Tension specialise in highly charged psych mayhem, taking elements of folk, pop, rhythm and blues and freakbeat to form a blend of fractured rhythms, luscious harmonies and battling guitars.
The Awkward Aura EP includes the tracks 'Oh When She Cries', 'Showdown', 'Power Of Bagsy', 'We Won't Get Back To The Other Side' and 'Big World Outside'.
Also playing on the night will be The Uncomfortables, David Rybka, The Victorian Dad Band, The Hang Project and DJ Gradius.
Tickets are priced just £5 with doors open at 7.30pm.
Then, on Saturday evening (March 21), the Citadel welcomes critically-acclaimed folk musician Martin Simpson.
Described as 'one of the finest acoustic finger-style and slide guitar players in the world' when winning two gongs at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards last year, Simpson's performance is not to be missed.
With 35-years of experience in the music business, his solo shows are described as intense, eclectic, spellbinding and deeply moving.
Simpson's recordings include a mixture of original and traditional songs and combine the diverse elements of British and Afro-American old-time music.
His career includes collaborations on stage and record with the likes of June Tabor, Kelly Joe Phelps, Jackson Browne, Danú, Martin Carthy, Cara Dillon, David Lindley, Roy Bailey, Martin Taylor, David Hidalgo, Steve Miller, Dick Gaughan and many more.
Whether playing American old-time music, blues, a Dylan song or his own material, Martin Simpson is a spellbinding guitarist and performer.
Tickets for this event are priced £14, or £12 for concessions.
