A football team playing in the St Helens Combination League have recorded their fund-raising song to cheer on England at next summer's World Cup.
Junction FC joined local unsigned band Titors Insignia in the Catalyst Studio in St Helens town centre to record the catchy Kasabian-style tune Three Lions on Fire.

The track is now being mastered and should be ready for release early next year.

Reserve team player-manager David Jacks – who helped start the Junction FC singing revolution – said: "We thoroughly enjoyed our day learning all about the trials and tribulations of the music industry and England shirts, banners and flags were order of the day.

"We're even considering entering the X Factor next year as a band – we've got to be better than Jedward!"

Junction FC players aged 18-53, who turn out every weekend at Parr Stocks playing fields, first got together to record a song for the 2002 World Cup and have recorded 10 songs in total now.

They have even recorded several Christmas songs and even rap songs performed by their resident freestyler!

But hopes are even higher for Three Lions on Fire, which is set to be released in either February or March next year and will be available via download.

David, 34, who shares his Junction FC reserve team management duties with pal Craig Beech, added: "Who knows, if we get a couple of thousand sales we could even make the top 40!"
