An award winning artist has created a stunning masterpiece for a St Helens theatre.
Andrew Foulds has toiled away in the Citadel to bring to life the much-loved pantomime Cinderella.
The talented painter has devoted more than three weeks to build the set which depicts her journey from shunned sister to a beautiful princess.
It is
not the usual line of work for the 25-year-old, who is renowned in the world of fine art.
He said: "I wanted to do this because I thought it would be a bit of a challenge and it certainly has. If I had known I was going to have to put a 60-hour week in then I might have thought twice about it.
"But it is really satisfying, especially when the children come into the theatre and they are really excited by the imaginary world we have created.
"I based a lot of the design on the works of Peter Doig, a German painter who excels in drawing his audience in."
Karen Barnes, production manager, said: "It is a brilliant piece of work and has been really easy to work with, especially for changing the different scenes.
"We can fold away part of the set to go from the village scene, to Hardup Hall - Cinderella's first unhappy home, to the fairytale ending in the palace."
Andrew, of Lynton Way, Windle, has already made an impact in both London and the local area. He is working on the Big Art Project in the town centre, has exhibitions planned in the capital and has been nominated for the Celeste Art Prize 2007.
The former St Helens College pupil said: "It is really hard to make money in this career, but I am currently managing to keep up my painting and do odd jobs at the same time.
"I may have to move to London and do a masters in the future, but right now I am happy helping out in the Citadel."
