Influential British band The Beat are heading to St Helens this weekend with their infectious brand of ska music.
The five-piece are set to play at the Citadel this Saturday (June 20) before embarking on a whistle-stop European tour.
Originally formed in Birmingham back in 1978 at a time of high-unemployment and social upheaval, it is somewhat fitting that The Beat are now enjoying a welcome resurgence of success.
Among their biggest hits - all recorded during the 2-Tone movement of the late 70s and early 80s - were songs such as Mirror in the Bathroom, Too Nice to Talk to and Can't Get Used to Losing You.
Led by charismatic frontman Ranking Roger, The Beat returned to centre stage in 2003 for a sell out show at the Royal Festival Hall.
Since then, Roger, along with his son Murphy 'Ranking Junior', Everett Morton and Dexy's Midnight Runners' Mickey Billingham, have been perfecting their act and working on new music.
Murphy 'Ranking Junior' also supplied guest vocals on the Ordinary Boys 2005 hit Boys Will Be Boys.
Known in America as The English Beat, their current tour runs until October and is set to take in venues across the UK as well as France, Holland and Germany.
Tickets to see The Beat at the Citadel are on sale now priced £15.
