Teenagers unique trip to Lourdes
Youngsters help elderly pilgrims to Lourdes
FIFTY young people from St Helens took part in a visit to Lourdes.
The youngsters from St Mary’s, Lowe House travelled to the French town, which has become a Christian shrine.
The group spent months preparing for the unique trip, where they assisted elderly pilgrims.
A church spokesman said: “They have been fundraising, having practical preparation and learning about the needs of the elderly, disabled and vulnerable.
“The week is not so much a holiday but a time to give to other people less fortunate and it is a unique way that young people and the elderly come together and learn from each other.
“The town of Lourdes has been a pilgrimage site since 1858 when a poor peasant girl, Bernadette Soubirous reported a number visions of Mary the mother Jesus.
“The town has become a pilgrimage centre attracting over five millions pilgrims each year.”
