High praise for Rainhill High School

RAINHILL High School has gained two awards and national recognition for achieving some of the fastest improving GCSE results in the country and being one of the top 10 per cent of schools at adding value.
The school qualified as one of the top 10 per cent of schools in England for added value at GCSE by scoring 10 points or more on the SSAT (Specialist Schools and Academies Trust) value-added scale for achieving five or more GCSEs at grade A*-C including English and maths.
As well as this Rainhill High School also qualified as one of the top 10 per cent of schools in England by improving its GCSE results year-on-year from 2008 to 2011 by at least 19 percentage points overall.
Every school in the country has been ranked according to now much value they have added to the scores their students were expected to achieve in their GCSE results in 2011.
This is determined by the progress students in a school have made between their test results at age 11 and 16, according to the measure used by SSAT – the representative body for schools.
Sue Williamson, chief executive of SSAT, said: “Rainhill High School should be congratulated for their stunning performance in GCSE improvement and adding value to their students’ achievements.
Rainhill High School is one of the best schools in the country at outperforming expectations for their pupils and improving their future prospects, as well as greatly improving their GCSE results There is plenty that other schools could learn from Rainhill High School’s success.
“These results are testament to the commitment and hard work of the students, teachers and leadership team at Rainhill High School and a vindication of their belief in high expectations, good teaching and ambition for every young person.
Headteacher John Pout said: “I am extremely proud that our students have received this award. Their hard work and commitment to their studies should be recognised nationally.
“We have a potent mixture at Rainhill, first class facilities, supportive parents, first class teachers and brilliant students. It is no surprise that they do so well.”
