Folk musician Eliza Carthy is coming to St Helens - the singer, hailed as the one of the figureheads of the English folk revival, returns to the Water Street arts centre on Saturday, December 5.
She will be performing songs from her latest album, the critically acclaimed Dreams of Breathing Underwater.
Born in that hotbed of English folk music, Scarborough, Eliza was raised in a musical family.
Aged 13 she formed her first group, the Waterdaughters, with her mum Norman Waterson, aunt Lal Waterson and cousin Maria Knight.
She has gone on to perform with some of the biggest names in British music, including singer Billy Bragg.
She was also one of the stand out performers at a concert commemorating the life of Fairytale of New York singer Kirsty MacColl.
But her upward career trajectory spluttered earlier last year when doctors diagnosed a cyst in her throat which was making singing painful. Planned surgery had to be delayed because Eliza was pregnant at the time.
Eliza has earned two Mercury Prize nominations and has already won an unrivalled seven BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, as well as being nominated for Singer of the Year, Best Album and Best Original Song for Mr Magnifico at this year's awards.
As well as Billy Bragg, she has worked with glittering array of artists, including Paul Weller, Nick Cave and Joan Baez.
On sale and priced £16, book your tickets now as they're already in great demand.
